The meaning behind the choice
Textbooks often foreground formal placement terminology, while everyday Brazilian Portuguese has a strong proclitic pattern. Learn the spoken default and the written register you actually need.
Do not begin by translating one English word into Portuguese. Begin with the relationship you want to express: destination or purpose, state or manner, familiarity or factual knowledge, movement toward or fixed location. The form becomes easier when the meaning is clear.
- Everyday Brazilian speech often uses pronoun + verb
- Negative words attract the pronoun: não me diga
