CELPE-Bras Prep

The only Brazilian Portuguese certificate that counts.

What is CELPE-Bras?

CELPE-Bras is the only Brazilian Portuguese proficiency certificate officially recognized by the Brazilian Ministry of Education (MEC). It's accepted by universities, employers, and immigration authorities in Brazil and around the world.

If you need Brazilian Portuguese certified — for university admission, professional credentials, citizenship applications, or career mobility — CELPE-Bras is the exam that counts.

How HappyPortuguese prepares you

We prepare students strategically — with the most effective materials and individualized attention. This isn't a generic Portuguese course with the word 'CELPE-Bras' attached. It's purpose-built for the exam, taught by a USP-credentialed professor with deep knowledge of the official INEP criteria.

A monthly subscription: 4 individual classes of 80 minutes per month (one per week). Most students prepare for 3–6 months — the timeline is anchored to your exam date.

What actually happens in a class

The program covers every component of the exam — the four written tasks and the Face-to-Face Interaction (IFF). Each student receives individualized feedback based on the official INEP evaluation criteria.

During live classes, we focus on oral communication (listening and speaking) and reading. This is where Carla works with you in real time, builds your conversational fluency, and prepares you for the IFF.

Written work happens between classes. You write each essay at home on the assigned topic. Carla returns it with detailed feedback by email — error analysis, deviation patterns, and targeted grammar exercises to address what came up. In the next class, we have dedicated time to clarify any recurring grammar questions from your writing.

This structure means every class is high-value face-time, and every essay gets careful, written feedback you can return to.

FAQ

Common questions

Do I need any Portuguese before starting?

No. Complete beginners are welcome in all programs. The free first class is a placement session — we assess your level and design your plan from there.

What platform do classes take place on?

All classes are held on Zoom. You get a recurring link when you enroll.

What time zones do you work with?

Dra. Carla works with students across North America, Europe, and Brazil. Morning, afternoon, and evening slots are available. Time zone accommodations are confirmed at booking.

Can I switch programs if my goals change?

Yes. If you start with 1:1 Adult Classes and later decide to pursue CELPE-Bras, we transition you — no penalty, no lost credits.

How many students are in each program?

CELPE-Bras cohorts are capped at 4 students. Business Portuguese and Adult 1:1 are individual. Young Learners groups are max 4 children; 1:1 options are also available.

What is a class credit?

A class credit is one prepaid class slot. Each plan comes with a set number of credits per month — for example, the standard monthly plans include 4 credits (one class per week). One credit is used per class attended. Credits do not expire: any unused credits carry over and remain in your account indefinitely. You can purchase credits by enrolling in a monthly plan or by buying a class pack — contact us to get started.

Is there a refund policy?

Unused class credits are fully refundable within 30 days of purchase, no questions asked. After 30 days, unused credits remain valid indefinitely — they never expire.

Does Carla speak English? Can she explain things in my language?

Yes — Carla speaks English fluently and uses it whenever a concept needs a clear explanation, a grammar point needs context, or you're simply stuck. She also has working knowledge of German and Spanish. You're never left guessing what something means. The goal is for you to understand and progress, not to sink or swim in a language you're still learning.
