How to give a business presentation in Brazilian Portuguese

A presentation becomes easier to follow when the audience always knows where you are, why a number matters, and what action should follow. Signposting is a language skill and a design skill.

Design one sentence the audience should remember

Before translating slides, state the core message in one sentence. Every section should explain, prove, qualify, or operationalize that sentence. If a slide does none of those jobs, it may not belong.

A clear message also controls vocabulary. You can practice the exact verbs, numbers, comparisons, and recommendations that support it instead of trying to become fluent in every possible phrase before presenting.

A mensagem principal é simples: precisamos reduzir o tempo de implantação sem aumentar o risco operacional.

The main message is simple: we need to reduce implementation time without increasing operational risk.

Names both the goal and the constraint.

Vou mostrar três evidências que sustentam essa recomendação.

I will show three pieces of evidence that support this recommendation.

Previews the structure.

Use signposts at every transition

Listeners cannot reread a spoken sentence. Tell them when you are moving from context to evidence, from evidence to recommendation, and from recommendation to implementation. Repeat the key noun instead of relying on ambiguous pronouns.

Your slide title and spoken transition should work together. If the title says “Impacto financeiro,” begin by explaining the financial question the slide answers.

  • Context: para começar, vale lembrar…
  • Evidence: os dados mostram três padrões…
  • Contrast: por outro lado, precisamos considerar…
  • Recommendation: com base nisso, recomendamos…

Explain numbers instead of reading them

Do not read every value on the slide. Identify the comparison, direction, scale, and consequence. Practice decimal separators, percentages, dates, and large numbers in Portuguese so the audience does not have to decode the number while also interpreting the point.

Qualify uncertainty. “Estimamos,” “o intervalo provável,” and “com os dados disponíveis” make assumptions visible. Precision includes saying what the number does not prove.

O crescimento foi de 18%, concentrado principalmente no segundo trimestre.

Growth was 18%, concentrated mainly in the second quarter.

Reads the meaning, not the full chart.

Esta é uma estimativa preliminar; o valor final depende da aprovação regulatória.

This is a preliminary estimate; the final value depends on regulatory approval.

Makes the condition explicit.

Prepare for questions as a second presentation

List the five questions most likely to challenge the recommendation: cost, timing, risk, evidence, and alternatives. Prepare a direct first sentence for each, followed by the evidence you can provide.

If you do not know, say what you know, what you need to verify, and when you will return with the answer. Guessing in fluent Portuguese is less professional than a precise commitment to follow up.

Ainda não temos esse dado consolidado. Posso confirmar com a equipe financeira e enviar até amanhã às 14h.

We do not yet have that consolidated data. I can confirm with finance and send it by 2 p.m. tomorrow.

Owns the follow-up without inventing an answer.

FAQ

Common questions

Should slides contain full Portuguese sentences?

Usually not. Use concise headings and evidence on the slide, then deliver the explanation orally. Full sentences are useful when the exact wording is the evidence.

How do I handle a word I cannot remember?

Reformulate with a simpler phrase, describe the concept, or briefly consult a prepared keyword note. Keep the audience focused on the message.

Personalized next step

Rehearse your deck, not a generic script

Use your real slides in class. Dra. Carla can refine the language, transitions, pronunciation, and Q&A responses that your audience will actually hear.
